This June, our CEO Kim Gibbens wrote to the mayor of San Diego, urging him to pay attention to the city’s thousands of miles of crumbling sidewalks that pose a serious threat to residents and tourists with blindness or low vision (you can read our write-up of the situation here). Councilman Mark Kersey responded with a promise to support sidewalk assessment and, on June 10, the City Council voted to approve a city-wide sidewalk assessment. Now there’s more good news, as the Infrastructure committee has unanimously approved an asset management policy that will adress problems with outdated, dangerous and non-ADA compliant city infrastructure.
