Guidelines For Helping The Blind and Visually Impaired (Pt. 4 of 7)
Steps
Here are some tips on helping blind and visually impaired people navigate steps:
- Tell your partner whether the steps or slope go up or down; going down is more difficult than going up
- Give your partner ample time to hold the handrail securely and judge the first step carefully
- Go one step ahead and take a slightly longer stride on the last step to allow your partner space
